Like a Google that has decided to produce its own version of Java to escape the Oracle Caudine Forks, SAP released a "friendly" fork of the open source version of Java, called SapMachine. The Java project, which began in December 2017, exploits the downstream version of OpenJDK - the open source version of Java - maintained by the publisher. Customers and partners of the software giant can use it to run their applications.

The versions of SapMachine align with those of OpenJDK . To know currently in production SapMachine 11 Long Term Support before a release of SapMachine 12, an implementation of the Java Development Kit ( JDK ) 12, expected on March 19th. Then, work will start on SapMachine 13. SapMachine is supported on Windows, Linux and MacOS. Docker images are available for most versions.
