Facebook confirms launch of anti-targeting feature for this year

Proposed several months ago by Mark Zuckerberg, the feature will be launched in the course of 2019. And it should be a real spike in advertising targeting.

The announcement is this time from David Wehner. The finance director of Facebook said this week, on the sidelines of a conference organized by Morgan Stanley Technolony, that the privacy tool was going to be launched this year. Clear History "  will give us trouble which is targeted as effectively as before  ," he noted, according to comments reported by our colleagues at CNBC.

Allow the user to have their Facebook data deleted and to prevent others from accessing it

Facebook introduced the Clear History tool last May at the F8 conference . The social network describes it as a feature that will allow any user to see which sites and applications access his Facebook data when he uses them. It will also give and above all the ability to delete its Facebook data and prevent third parties to access it in the future.
On his Facebook page, Mark Zuckerberg says, "  In your web browser, you have a simple way to clear your cookies and history. The idea is that many sites need cookies to work, but you should still have the power to clear your history at any time  . "

Facebook will have more trouble targeting ads

If we do not know how the tool will work and how it will look, we can imagine its impact on Facebook's ability to target ads and capture revenue. If many users decide to remove the information collected on their internet activity, the US company will have more difficulty in targeting and will generate less revenue.
Facebook will create reports for sites and apps based on certain data. For example, developers will be able to find out if their applications are more used by women or men, by particular age groups, but the social network will provide these reports without storing user account information.
The firm must go through this objective of transparency if it wants to hope to regain the damaged confidence of its subscribers, after the multiple scandals of the last months.
