Following the trend still shy, but growing, mini-PCs based on chips AMD Ryzen, HP presented this Tuesday (along with the Envy x360 15 , also equipped with AMD processors), its ProDesk 405 G4. The device, whose dimensions do not exceed 177x175x34mm for 1.26 kilo, will be launched in April from 499.99 dollars.
Inside this thin chassis, HP integrates Ryzen Pro 2000 series chips. A first for the manufacturer on a machine of this size, says AnandTech. The ProDesk 405 G4 is a choice of an Athlon Pro 200GE (dual core 3.2 GHz with iGPU Vega 3), a Ryzen 3 Pro 2200GE (Quad Core 3.6 GHz with iGPU Vega 8 ) or a Ryzen 5 2400GE (3.8 GHz Quad Core with Vega 11 graphics). As a reminder, these three processors jointly display a TDP of 35 Watts.
A versatile connectivity wanted
For the rest, HP's new ultra-compact PC can ship up to 32 GB of RAM in DDR4-2933, 128 to 512 GB of SSD (in M.2 NVMe format), as well as a 1 TB hard drive (2.5 inches). The set consumes nearly 65 Watts in operation and is powered by an external power supply. There is also an Intel or Realtek chip (depending on the model) responsible for ensuring WiFi connectivity 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 or 4.2 to the device. The connectivity is for its part versatile. We find an Ethernet port, 6 USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2 output with MST (Multi Stream Transport), two headphone jacks and a few optional ports (USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 2.0, D-Sub, Serial ...).
Safety in sight
Finally, note that HP focuses on security with its ProDesk 405 G4. The device takes advantage of AMD's Desktop & Mobile Arctecture for Hardware (AMD) management of its Radeon Pro APUs, as well as a TPM 2.0 module and HP's Sure Click and BIOSphere devices to " secure the system" against common attacks , "recalls AnandTech. With the ProDesk 405 G4, the manufacturer recommends the use of Windows 10 Pro. The PC will arrive however on the market with - choice - Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Home or FreeDOS.
